Re: Proposal for illustrated book series on mental illness

The 33 year old author and illustrator, Stacey Lane, is an accomplished and sought-after residential muralist, whose engaging artworks of color and fantasy debuted in her childhood. As her talent emerged, so did the signs of severe emotional instability. In early adolescence she was diagnosed with clinical depression. During her twenties, Bipolar Disorder manifested itself and anorexia nervosa followed shortly after. Stacey was at war with her ever-present demons discoloring and distorting her world. Nevertheless, her ability to vividly re-create her torment in her artwork was not only a refuse for her, but also a record she could share. Stacey’s willingness and determination to accept professional counseling and proper medication has rewarded her with a quality of life that is exemplary in the treatment of mental illness.

Stacey’s recovery experience has inspired and motivated her to become a Certified Life Coach, proffering guidance to clients with similar conditions through the myriad adjustments in their healing process. Ms. Lane’s vision of a series of books for teens and adults, graphically illustrating the journey from discovery to wellness of the states of depression, has been a decade-long project which, when published, would reach fruition. Via the imagery of her emotional artwork, accompanied by minimal, yet poetic narrative, she proposes The Adventures of Skinny Miss S.:

Book No. 1 - Skinny Miss S. Was Very Depressed tells the story of a young woman displaying and reacting to the debilitating symptoms of clinical depression, coming to terms with her illness and seeking the appropriate channels toward recovery.

Book No. 2 - Skinny Miss S. Was Very Possessed continues the story of Skinny’s journey into mania which is common for misdiagnosed depressants if they are in fact bipolar.

The Benefits/Anticipated Usage:

  • The dramatic and colorful messages are meant to reach those who have not been able to articulate and/or recognize their disturbed emotional state.
  • To be offered as a gift from any concerned friend or relative.
  • To be found as reading material in the offices of any mental health therapist.

Please visit Stacey Lane’s website www.SkinnyMissS.com for art and writing samples of the above-proposed work. Should you require any additional information, please contact me directly. Thank you for your time and consideration of The Adventures of Skinny Miss S. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
